The Departments of Government and Philosophy at Dartmouth College invite applications for the position of Assistant Professor in Government and/or Philosophy. Primary appointment will be in the Government Department, or the Philosophy Department, or it will be a joint appointment in both Departments, depending on fit and the applicant’s preferences. Area of Study: Social and Political Philosophy. We are especially interested in candidates whose research concerns philosophical issues related to race and ethnicity and/or African American Political Thought. We seek candidates with a strong commitment to teaching, scholarly work, engaging students in research, and building a diverse and inclusive educational environment.

Successful qualified candidates will have the option of being appointed initially as a Faculty Fellow, a two-year residential postdoctoral appointment. After this two-year period, the position will convert to a regular tenure-track appointment as Assistant Professor. Faculty Fellows are part of a cohort of faculty committed to increasing diversity in their disciplines.
