The Department of Communication in the College of Arts and Humanities at the University of Maryland-College Park invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track assistant professor position in Communication Science with a specialization in health and/or science communication. The starting date for this position is August 23, 2022.

The successful candidate will have or show clear promise of a strong research program in health and/or science communication. We are particularly interested in candidates who study health and/or science communication in regards to larger cultural and group dynamics. Candidates whose research centers on one or more of the following are strongly encouraged to apply: racial/ethnic disparities in health and/or healthcare, immigrant health, environmental justice, and science communication challenges in underserved populations. The successful candidate will also have expertise or interest in topic areas that complement one or more of the research and teaching specializations in the department: crisis and risk communication; gender and diversity; public relations; political communication; media or digital communication, or rhetoric. Interest in and experience with pursuing extramural funding are highly desirable.

Candidates should demonstrate an ability to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in communication theory, quantitative research methods, and courses in the candidate’s primary area of expertise. Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in Communication or a related field at the time of appointment. They must also have the ability to advise graduate students. Teaching experience at the university level is highly desirable.
