Assistant Professor, Public Relations

The Department of Communication in the College of Arts and Humanities at the University of Maryland-College Park invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track assistant or associate professor position in Public Relations. The starting date for this position is August 23, 2022.

The successful candidate will have or show clear promise of a strong, active research program in Public Relations. Preference will be given to candidates with expertise or interest in topic areas that complement one or more of the research and teaching specializations in the department: health, risk or crisis communication; gender and diversity; communication science; political communication; media or digital communication, or rhetoric. Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in public relations, communication, mass communication, or a related field at the time of appointment and have the ability to advise graduate students. Rank at appointment will be commensurate with evidence of experience and expertise in the field. Preference will be given to candidates who have an expertise in areas related to marginalized populations, equity, and justice.

Candidates should demonstrate an ability to teach undergraduate courses in a variety of areas such as public relations principles, writing, and campaigns, and qualitative and/or quantitative research methods. The ability to teach graduate courses in public relations theory and publics will also be important, along with graduate courses in the candidate’s primary area of expertise. Teaching experience at the university level is highly desirable.
