Pride 2025 Call for Blog Posts

BWSA is excited to announce a special call for blog posts to celebrate Pride month this June! Our theme is “Noisy, Joyful, Expressive: Celebrating the Sounds of Black Queer Life.” We invite blog post pitches that focus on the intersections of queer studies, sound studies, and – as always – Black Women’s Studies. We also especially welcome pitches that speak to trans and nonbinary experiences. If you also have an idea that speaks more generally to the intersection of LGBTQ+ life and Black women’s studies, we encourage those submissions as well.

Those interested in submitting a pitch should complete the BWSA Blog Pitch Survey by Friday, May 16 (deadline extended!). The BWSA Blog team will review submissions and invite authors to complete their full blog post shortly after. Blog post drafts should be approximately 800 words maximum and should use a standard citation style throughout (APA, MLA, or Chicago).

Invited authors should complete their blog post drafts by late May. Each submission will be reviewed by a member of the BWSA Blog team and authors will receive comments by the first week of June. Authors will have one week to make changes, and each reviewed and accepted blog post will be posted on the BWSA website and to various BWSA social media accounts by the end of June.
